Time to act on biofuels fraud

Report biofuels fraud

If you see something, say something.

The EBB Whistleblower Tool allows for a confidential and easy reporting of allegations of fraud or non-compliance of the RED.

All information will be investigated by authorised staff of the EBB or its law firm, shortly after it is received.

Fraud should be prosecuted. The objective is for us to gather proof and inform the relevant verification schemes and (national) authorities so that non-compliance is sanctioned.

Our proposal to reform EU biofuels verification

In its continued effort to tackle biofuels fraud, the EBB has published an elaborate and ambitious proposal revising the rules on sustainable biofuels verification.

Some highlights

  • Rules that apply to domestic producers, should be enforced just as strictly outside of the EU, for biofuels used on the EU market.
  • Every producer should report the quantities, capacities and feedstock-use of biofuels produced from raw materials listed in Annex IX , as is already the case in some countries.
  • There must be tougher sanctions on non-compliance.

The EBB considers fraud an existential threat for our industry, for the functioning of sustainability verification, and for the EU’s climate ambitions. We remain committed to high standards and full compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) sustainability criteria.
